People with deep pockets that want to stay N/A
#245197
Hey guys, I have an 03 spec-v and I have a few questions about parts, i know a decent amount about cars and working on them but I'm still learning and need some pointers, I got my car about 2 months ago and Im planning on doing some work to it.

The first question is on spark plugs, I read a previous thread and came to the conclusion that the NGK iridiums are the plugs to go with, when I install them am I going to need to space them? And if so what degree do I go to?

My second question is my main one, because of the cat issues the b15s have, i decided I want to get a whole new exhaust system I looked around for what I could find for sale, what's going to be my best option on a budget? I read about the set ups as far as the 4:1 the 4:2:1 and I know the 4:1 is going to give me the best performance but I don't want something to loud or raspy, what kind of muffler should I buy? And as far as resonators go do you i just go to a exhuast shop and buy some from them and have them weld it on, or are them some resonators I could independently, how many would I need? And would they give me the back pressure I need? I know this a big question but I appreciate all the help I can get,

Is it worth getting a cold air intake and if so what kind, also on a budget if possible.

And my last question is I need new brakes, I was mainly looking on ebay but I couldn't really find any full sets of rotors and pads, what's going to be my best option and is there anything special about installing them or is it like most other brake jobs. I appreciate all the help.

lets start with the plugs
iridium are great performance plugs and come pre-gapped at .042"
iridium compared to copper

for exhaust
just too many options

other opinions will emerge
check the allsentra store

i went with a 2jr side exhaust

i suggest brembo blank rotors and hawk pads for stock brakes
brembo made the stock rotors on the spec as well as the larger brembo option

I can help answer your exhaust system question. Now if you're going to be going the same direction as the guy to reply first I would do what he said exactly. That is an awesome setup for a race car. Now if you're going to be going N/A or turbo I can help out.

The stock exhaust system is 2" from what information I have gathered. If you're staying N/A go with an after market system that is 2.5" from the header outlet back and you can most likely find a system that comes with a resonator on the system already so you don't have to worry about welding one on unless you find one you really really like. Since you don't want anything too loud or annoying I would go with some high flow cats like a magnaflow (they usually are the better sounding exhaust systems and have better exhaust parts, but you will most likely have to have them welding on unless you can find a system that comes with high flow cats or I would just get a catback system and then a high flow cat and just replace the stock one). You should see if you can find a full catback magnaflow exhaust system, they make one of the best sounding exhaust systems imo if you're looking for not too loud and a nice sounding system.

You should be able to also find headers and a down pipe pretty easily like I did. The size of the headers you're going to want are 2" inlet and a 2.5" outlet because it will make the exhaust pressure go down but not significantly so you will gain HP but not cause any problems like you would with a 3" system. The back pressure would be too low for a N/A engine at 3" or up. You would really be fine at 3" I just have heard that anything over 2.5"-2.75" for an N/A engine is beneficial unless you're looking for loud, which you're not.

If you're not going N/A and going turbo, get a full 3" system and I would honestly go straight pipe because it is better for the turbo. It what I did on my Subaru.

Sorry I meant anything over 2.5"-2.75" IS NOT beneficial. And you wont get any problems with a 3" system they are just best for turbo cars or if you're going for a loud system.
