Within the next year I'm going to be moving on to my next ride. I'm at about 150,000 miles with my 08 Spec and even though its been a fun and reliable car I've decided its time to move on. Now I'm looking for suggestions for my next car. Three considerations, it must be a daily driver, I want it faster than the Spec, and mpg must be decent ( at least mid 20s highway). As far as budget goes I'm looking to spend in the range of 20-25k. Other than that any suggestions are welcome.

Here is a short list of possible vehicles I've come up with:
BMW 335xi
Mazdaspeed3
Nissan 370z
Subaru WRX(everyone seems to have one around me though)
Lancer Evo IX or X(if in price range)
Ford Focus ST
Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8

I think the most suitable "daily" would be the Focus ST. Definitely faster than the spec and with more potential. Great fuel economy as well.

I've seen the ST in action at the track and it was VERY impressive.

2015 WRX. The new FA20 is going to be the future of Subaru. I'm loving it in our BRZ and I've heard to skip the current STI and just get the new WRX. Personally it would be worth paying just a little more than your price range for it.

Spend a third of your budget and by my car yo. Faster than every car on your list and better priced :)

Yea I've heard the WRX is the way to go for a daily driver. I've heard the current STIs take a little longer to reach full boost and are better just for the track. The only problem is too many people I know have the WRX.

When I did the switch I went for the ST (see my show off in Other) i test drove a couple in your list.

My points were almost the same as yours + I needed room for at least 4 people in the car, the Gen was nice but room was lacking - the GTI I liked but wasnt sold on it - and the MS3 they didnt sell them new and all the used one are almost beat to death by the previous owner. -370 same issue with seating - the new subby, although they look nice, i've heard nothing but horror stories so I decided to stay away. and Evos I heard the cost of repair was horrible by previous evo owners so I stayed away but i heard Mitsubishi fixed it -

So far after 1 year of ownership the ST is fun to drive and has some good power and has plenty of aftermarket support for it BUT tuning wise it has its limit and quickly needs to have the turbo upgraded. if youre looking for tunning power you might but meet your goal with the platform; the stock turbo max out at 300hp - 370tq give or take some depending on dynos (still reasonable for me but some people might want more).

If you can, go for a test drive and push it, you'll see its fun to drive + the new 2015 has a few upgrades you might like ( I didnt like most of them but hey its all about preference! haha) (Seats are softer - flat bottom steering - facia upgrade = backupcamera - slightly larger moonroof - and a few more things)

In the end, buy the car for you and the one you like. Get a day off and book as many test drive as you can and only then youll be able to tell which one you like the most.

And the RS will be no where close to the 20-25k mark haha so cross that one out.

Thanks for the advice, and wow you were hitting ~300tq for a few boltons and stock tune, very nice! I'm definitely going to have to go test drive one of these guys and see how it feels... and haha yea the RS I'm guessing will be around 35k

My pleasure! a tune would yeild better numbers but I like to just ease the stress on the engine and once I tune it ill see a nice step up in gains.

Not a warranty per-se, but I'll gladly help in any way I can if you have ANY issues with it. I'd also provide all my tuning software, roms, maps, cable, laptop and contact information for my tuner. I just want it to go somewhere good so I don't have to part it out or sell it to a goon.

That said, car passed OBD2 inspection with no issues earlier this year. I drive it more now and it still treats me well and surprises me.

You're absolutely right. It's really powerful and it will be a revolution it's on.
